Where the love for nature, animals, and sustainable living comes to life. Meet the heart and soul behind this haven, Keith and Ashley Carey, a couple deeply rooted in Indiana, and passionate about creating a sanctuary for both people and animals alike.
Keith and Ashley, married since 2007, embarked on this journey together, moving from Hammond to the charming town of North Judson in 2009. Their love for the great outdoors led them to a breathtaking 20-acre property that includes a pond, stream, and wooded area, providing the perfect backdrop for their vision of Carey’s Farm.
Ashley, a committed vegan since 2019, is not only a compassionate advocate for animal welfare but also an experienced green thumb. Her affinity for gardening knows no bounds, and she takes joy in cultivating a variety of crops, including tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, gourds, and more. The harvest is shared with all living at Carey’s Farm as well as friends and family. This passion for plant life and sustainability is evident in every corner of the farm.
By day, Ashley works at the local Ace Hardware store in North Judson while Keith serves as the Harbormaster at The Hammond Marina. Despite their busy schedules, they always find time for their shared love of nature, plants, and animals.
Their journey into caring for animals started decades ago with Ashley’s first rescue cat, Heathcliff, when she was only 8 years old. Since then, the Carey family has expanded to include lovable dogs named Harley and Max, who accompanies them on their adventures everywhere. Over the years, they have opened their hearts and home to countless abandoned and homeless dogs, cats, ducks, chickens, rabbits, and other animals.
At Carey’s Farm, the mission goes beyond simply caring for abandoned domestic animals. It’s about fostering a community that shares a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of all living beings and the environment.
